Bagrina offers a unique aromatic profile, with notes of fresh apricots, mango, sage, hay, jasmine blossoms, and white tea. It is full-bodied and creamy in structure, yet at the same time very mineral and firm.
Bagrina, an indigenous grape variety of Eastern Serbia, was carefully cultivated and aged in barriques, giving it a rich flavor and complex character. The distinctiveness of this variety is also reflected in its name, derived from the ancient Greek word "bagriti" (to blush), inspired by the reddish tones of ripe berries. Thanks to the persistent work of the Matalj winery, the Grode of this almost forgotten variety once again occupies a prominent place on the wine list.
The new 2023 vintage of Bagrina appears in a new bottle, with a modernized label, but also with a story that combines tradition and innovation. This wine is not only a symbol of the revival of an indigenous variety, but also a testament to the efforts to preserve and celebrate the authentic spirit of Negotin Krajina.
The Matalj Winery continues to pride itself on preserving and reviving history through its wines, transforming them into stories about the soil, tradition, and love for the vineyards.
