Bagrina offers a unique aromatic profile that includes fresh apricots, mango, sage, hay, jasmine flowers and white tea. It is full-bodied, creamy in structure, but at the same time very mineral and firm.
Bagrina, an autochthonous grape variety of Eastern Serbia, was carefully cultivated and aged in oak barrels, giving it a rich flavor and complex character. The peculiarity of this variety is also reflected in its name, which is derived from the ancient Greek word “bagriti” — “blush” — inspired by the reddish tones of ripe berries. Thanks to the persistent work of the Matalj winery, the grode of this almost forgotten variety is once again an important part of the wine list.
The new vintage of Bagrina 2023 comes in a new bottle, with a modernized label, but also with a story that combines tradition and innovation. This wine is not only a symbol of the revival of an autochthonous variety, but also a testimony to the efforts made to preserve and celebrate the authentic spirit of Negotin Krajina.
Matalj Winery continues to be proud to preserve and revive history through its wines, turning them into stories about the soil, tradition and love for the vineyards.
